What does the Bible say about Procrastination
The Bible speaks clearly about procrastination and warns us about the dangers of delaying important tasks. Procrastination is when we put off doing something we know we should do. It can lead to missed opportunities, laziness, and disobedience to God. The Bible teaches that we should be diligent, work hard, and make the most of our time.
In Proverbs 6:9-11, the Bible describes a lazy person who sleeps instead of working. It warns that poverty will come quickly to those who are not diligent. This shows that when we delay doing what is right, we can suffer the consequences. Another verse, Ecclesiastes 11:4, tells us that if we wait for perfect conditions, we will never get anything done. Sometimes, people delay action because they are waiting for the “right time,” but the Bible reminds us that today is the time to act.
James 4:17 gives a serious warning about procrastination. It says that if we know the right thing to do but choose not to do it, it is sin. This means that when God calls us to do something, whether it is helping others, repenting from sin, or sharing the gospel, delaying is not an option. We must obey immediately.
Jesus also spoke about the dangers of delay. In Luke 9:62, He said that anyone who looks back after deciding to follow Him is not fit for the kingdom of God.
